Ruth F. (Swasey) Verrette, 93, of Salem passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Kaplan Hospice House, Danvers. She was the wife of the late Philias J. Verrette, Sr.
Born in Salem, Ruth was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Cora (Lapham) Swasey. She lived in Salem most of her life and was a longtime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post1524 in Salem.
Ruth is survived by her four children; Phyllis Bloom and her husband Paul of West Warwick, R.I., Philias Verrette, Jr. of Salem, MA, Paul Verrette of Salem, MA, and Carol Thibault Sullaway and her husband Sheldon of Danvers, MA; seven grandchildren, Tina Niarhos of Dracut, MA, Ann Marie Pryde of Chicago, IL, Richard Weinburg of Texas, Wendy Arroyo of R.I., Douglas Bloom of C.T., Nathaniel Verrette of Peabody, MA, and Emily Verrette of Salem, MA; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother Frank Swasey and his wife Pat of Salem, MA; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Jean Paul Verrette, Mary Jane Gagnon, Theresa Burton, Noella Melanson, and Yvonne Verrette. Along with her husband, Philias, Ruth is predeceased by many brothers and sisters and brothers and sister-in-law.
Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8pm in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. Salem. Relatives and friends are invited. Her funeral will be held in the funeral home Friday at 10am with a service starting at 10:30. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
