Mary G. Michaud, 98

March 10, 1926 - October 30, 2024

Salem- Mary G. (Rothwell) Michaud, 98, of Salem, passed away Wednesday evening, October 30, 2024 in the company of her family at her home in Salem. She was the loving wife of the late Donald J. Michaud.

Born in Chelsea, MA, Mary was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Zaverson) Rothwell. Mary was an awesome mother who had a beautiful life. She loved swimming at the beach, dancing with twinkle toes (Don), ABBA , crocheting blankets for everyone, the stock market and traveling and vacationing in the islands. She was a model of patience and grace. She worked very hard as a homemaker raising 8 children and was deeply involved with the ARC protecting the rights of disabled children. She had great capacity for understanding, and was kind and compassionate to everyone. She loved caring for and teaching her children that family matters and to have love and patience for each other. Coming from a member of the Greatest Generation she lived through the Great Depression, was frugal, and even made her own clothes. She was witness to the people waving in the Hindenburg while it floated past her grade school windows on its fateful journey to New Jersey, The extinguishing of the last gas light in east Boston, the invention of TV, the moon landing, the internet, IVF, and organ transplants. WOW. What a run. She gave us the freedom to be ourselves and was always there to catch us if we fell. We were lucky to have had her for all those years. She taught us to appreciate the simple things in life that bring us happiness and joy. Her motto was, "Do the best you can", and "Take a good vacation". She will be missed and deeply loved to infinity and beyond!

Surviving her are her children, MaryLou Gauthier and her husband Donald, Susanne Drucas, Jeannette Michaud, Donald Michaud and his wife Cathy, Louise Michaud and her husband Mike Magee, and David Michaud; her grandchildren, D.J. (Katie) Gauthier, Michael (Justin) Kelly-Gauthier, Amy (Dan) Fraser, Jay (Jennifer) Drucas, Kevin Drucas, Elissa (Ian) Gillis, Lloyd (Sarah) Michaud, Julie Michaud, Alyssa (Kevin) Knesek, Corinne (Brett) LaBlanc and Ben (Lida) Michaud; her great-grandchildren, Sophie Gauthier, C.J.
