Norman P. LaPointe, 90

Salem- Deacon Norman P. LaPointe, 90 of Salem passed away peacefully Saturday morning, September 2, 2023 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Roberta A. "Bobbie" (Desjardins) LaPointe.
Born in Salem, the son of the late Omer and Cecile (LeBel) LaPointe, Norman served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Returning home, he married the love of his life Bobbie and shared 64 years of marriage together. Norman attended St.John's Seminary's first graduating class of Deacons and was ordained a Deacon at the Holy Cross Cathedral in 1976 in Boston. Norman worked from 1964-1997 for the City of Salem in many postions as a Firefighter and later as the Fire Inspector as well as serving the Salem Fire Department as their Chaplain. Norman continued in his role as the Chaplain for the Salem Fire Department until his passing. He played a key role in establishing Fire Prevention regulations and guidelines which are still in place today. Norman loved to travel the country with his wife Bobbie in their RV and kept the travels going until he was 85.
Norman is survived by his beloved children, Paul LaPointe and his wife Jamie of Florida, David LaPointe and his wife Joyce of New Hampshire, Terri Marino of Danvers, Pattie Garzone and her husband Joseph of Groveland; six grandchildren, Christopher LaPointe, Michelle LaPointe, Eric Marino, Cassandra Garzone, Joshua Garzone, and Tyler LaPointe; four great-grandchildren, a sister, Claire Montminy and her husband Roland, and four nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in St. James Church, 160 Federal St. Salem, MA on Friday, September 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Followed by his Funeral Mass to be held at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
