Elise A. Deschamps, 65
December 5, 1957 – February 9, 2023
Salem – Elise Ann Deschamps, 65, of Salem, passed away Thursday evening, February 9, 2023, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a long struggle with chronic illness. Despite years of pain, she was laughing until her last hours of consciousness.
Born in Salem, Elise was the daughter of Elizabeth J. (St. Pierre) Deschamps and the late Roger H. Deschamps. She attended École St. Joseph of Salem for grammar school and was a graduate of Salem High School’s Class of 1975. Elise adventured out to Los Angeles in 1979 with her best friend of 60 years, Lise Pelletier, and lived there until returning to Salem in 1987. She worked in bookkeeping and Human Resources for many years in Los Angeles and the North Shore area, including at The Landing of Marblehead. Elise had a passion for animals, film, and music, among many loves. As a child, she would become so obsessed with a favorite 45 rpm that she would repeat the song over and over again. Her friends and family could never listen to “Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)” by The Hollies again without rolling their eyes.
Elise’s French-Canadian roots go back four generations in Salem. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth J. (St. Pierre) Deschamps, of Salem; her brother, David Deschamps, of Los Angeles; her brother-in-law, Bennett Singer, of Los Angeles; her favorite uncle, Robert St. Pierre, of Mattapoisett, MA; her aunt, Janice (Deschamps) Pappas, of Pompano Beach, Florida; and multiple cousins.
A gathering in celebration of Elise’s life is planned for Sunday, April 2 at 3:00 pm. Please contact EliseMemorial@gmail.com for the details. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elise’s memory may be made to Kaplan Family Hospice. To send a condolence message to the family, please comment below. Condolences may not immediately appear.
