Richard N. "Dick" Bois, 88

Salem- Richard N. "Dick" Bois, 88, of Salem, passed away February 19th 2022 at the Pilgrim rehabilitation in Peabody surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marie A. (Caton) Bois.
Born in Salem, Dick was the son of the late Thomas P. and Irene (Robichaud) Bois. Dick was raised in Salem primarily by his loving grandmother, the late Memere Emma Bois. A US Navy Veteran, Dick enlisted during the Korean War. He served on the destroyer USS Fraser (DM24) and was awarded an accommodation for saving a drowning crewman's life while at sea.
Back home, Dick worked for many years as an assistant postmaster with the US Postal Service in Salem. Dick also took pride in being a lifeguard and water safety instructor who trained and managed Salem's beach and pool lifeguards for years. He was a long time member of the Salem and Danvers YMCAs and the member of the Red Cross. He was a rabid Red Sox fan and even tried out for Major League baseball as a young man. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and loved camping with his wife and family visiting many state parks, watching spring training and traveling around the country.
Along with his wife Marie A. (Caton) Bois of Salem, Dick is survived by their children, Rick Bois and his wife Carole of Derry, NH, Bob Bois and his wife Tess of Princeton, MA, John Bois and his wife Barb of Brownfield, ME, and JoAnne Dobrosielski of Salem; their seven grandchildren, Tom Bois, Shaunna Palumbo, Dante Bois, Jonah Bois, Marc Lambert, Matt Lambert, and Dan Dobrosielski; four great-grandchildren, Teagan, Tate, Tessa, and Isabel and many nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Bois.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson avenue Salem, MA on Monday, February 28 followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Masks are required inside church. Donations may be made in Dick's name to Northeast Animal Shelter through Northeastanimalshelter.org or to the national kidney foundation through kidney.org.
