Retired Salem Police officer Lt. Paul Wilfred Joseph Lemelin, 73 passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his children after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, January 9, 2022. He received his final promotion in February of 1993 to the rank of Lieutenant until his retirement from Salem Police Department after 37 years of service in April of 2009. After retiring from the department in 2009 Paul enjoyed traveling with his wife Muriel and cherished every moment spent with his four children and nine grandchildren. His greatest days were spent with family on road trips, laughing, playing volleyball in the yard and swimming in his pool. He loved to play cards and celebrate the achievements of his children and grandchildren. Paul frequently would reminisce about meeting Muriel at the age of seven and becoming life long partners and often shared fond childhood memories of time spent with cousins while growing up in Salem.
