A Special Woman
Jeanne A. (LeBlanc) Jordan, 94, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on January 9, 2021.
Jeanne was born May 20, 1926 in Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, New Brunswick Canada. She grew up on a farm with her parents, Ferdinand and Virginie (Richard) LeBlanc and her 12 siblings. Jeanne moved to Massachusetts when she was 19 years old. She supported herself by waitressing and nannying for room and board. Jeanne loved to dance and met her husband, Albert Jordan, at a Salem Willows dance. They built their home in Marblehead shortly before their marriage in 1952, and Jeanne lived there for the remainder of her life. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage until Albert died in 1993.
Jeanne and Albert helped Jeanne’s 4 sisters, Lea, Elda, Bernadette and Marie Paul when they moved from Canada to Massachusetts. Jeanne always looked forward to yearly summer trips to Canada to see childhood family and friends.
Jeanne always loved helping people. Whether a neighbor needed a ride, meal, yard work, or just a friend to listen, she was always there. Jeanne was truly selfless and never acknowledged her many acts of kindness.
Jeanne worked for the town of Marblehead at the Mary Alley Hospital until it closed in 1986. After that she continued working at the Lafayette Nursing Home and provided private home care until her 80s, when she started spending time with and caring for her grandchildren. She took great joy in being active in their lives and helping to raise them. Jeanne’s true joy was her family. She enjoyed hosting her family and friends for every holiday dinner or cookout at her home. Jeanne had a passion for gardening, bowling, painting, traveling, and especially playing cards with the girls. She was a devout Catholic. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead for over 70 years. She faithfully attended church until New Year’s Day, 2021.
