Leonard P. L'Italien, 98, of Beverly, formerly of Salem, passed away Thursday morning, January 14, 2016 at Brentwood Nursing Home in Danvers. He was the husband of the late Mary C. (Hughes) L'Italien.
Born in Salem, Leonard was the son of the late Peter and Laura (Menard) L'Italien. A U.S. Navy Veteran, Leonard served his country on ships and submarines from the beginning of WWII until 1955. Upon his return he worked for many years as a self-employed carpenter. After retiring in his main career, Leonard worked for a while at Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead. He was a longtime member of the ICC Club in Beverly and was also a member of the Franco American AMVETS in Beverly.
He is survived by a daughter, Marie Fortuna and her husband Barry of Beverly; two grandchildren, Nicole and Anthony Fortuna; a sister Marcelle Pearson of PA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Jean, Edward, and Laurien L’Italien, Anita Gauthier, Audrey Menard, and Claire Bennett.
