Jose "Poti" Isales Cruz, 60

Salem- Jose "Poti Isales, 60, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Noverember 6, 2025, at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Bayamon, San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was the beloved son of the late Marta D. Cruz and Jose C Isales.  Jose made his home in Salem for many years, where he worked in the shipping and receiving industry.  Jose was an avid sports fan whether it was boxing, football or tennis, but his true passion was his love of Salsa music.  He would take weekly trips to the local record shop, buying records from his favorite Salsa artist until he built up his beloved collection.  With the windows open in his home he would often play his Salsa music loud and proud, while singing along passionately and playing the maracas or his bongo cowbell.  He put his heart and soul into these performances in his living room as though he was live on stage.

Jose also loved spending time with his family and friends.  Whether he was cooking for everyone, or sharing stories while listening to his music, he just wanted to make you laugh and smile.  He had a heart of gold, and a smile that would light up the room.

Jose is survived by his longtime partner Donna Gaito of Salem, their two children, daughter, Jalysa Gaito and her fiancé Julian Crowder of Peabody, son, Deni Gaito and his wife Jennifer Gaito of Georgetown, sister, Maria Isales of North Adams, sister, Rosa Isales of Pittsfield, brother, Hector Cruz of Chicopee, grandchildren, Journey, Joey, Julian Jr, Isabella and Eva.  He also leaves behind several nieces, and nephews.  Jose was predeceased by his parents Marta D Cruz and Jose C. Isales, brothers, Samuel Isales, and Ramon Isales.  He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Services will be held in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St Salem, MA on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 9-11 a.m. followed by burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
