Michael J. Furey, 79

Salem- Michael J. Furey, 79, of Salem, passed away after a long illness Monday morning, June 17, 2024 at his home. He was the husband of Joyce (Barker) Furey.
Born in Salem, MA, Michael was the son of the late William E. and Anne E. (McGrath) Furey. Michael was a graduate of the Philips School in Salem, Salem High School, class of 1964, and Essex Agricultural in 1967 with a degree in Marketing. Michael worked at the First National Store in Salem, Sylvania in Danvers, North Shore Childrens Hospital and Salem Hospital and also the Marblehead Community Store in Marblehead. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing, hiking and walking. They were active with the Boy Scouts Troop Committee organizing events for local Boy Scout Troops. Michael was also a Mason with the Amity-Mosaic Lodge in Danvers. Above all, Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He was known for his famous Woo-Woo!
Along with his wife of 47 happy years, Joyce (Barker) Furey of Salem, Michael is survived by his children; Karen Horgan and her husband David of Peabody, Douglas MacArthur of Marblehead, Julie MacArthur of Peabody, and John MacArthur of Lynn; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, his siblings Mary L. Furey of Beverly, and Thomas H. Furey of Salem, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Helen Gagnon, Edward Furey, William Furey, Ann Marie Furey, and Mary Ann Ladowski.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. on Sunday, June 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be private.
