Norman W. Lavoie, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September, 8th after a brief illness. Norman was born in Salem, MA, son of Zenon A. and Yvonne (Harvey) Lavoie on March 24, 1937. He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years Abby Ann (McLaughlin) Lavoie, his five children William (Christine) of Salem, NH, Michael (Sarah) of Dover, NH, Diann (Patrick) Ewanchuk of Franklin, MA, Debra (Peter) Bastien of Winchester, MA, and Patti (Wes) McCullough of Hamilton, MA, his 12 grandchildren Bryan and Jayson Lavoie, Kate and Madeleine Lavoie, Jonathan, Nicholas and Elisabeth Ewanchuk, Abigail and Avery Bastien and Norah, Annie and Faye McCullough, and his lap cat Franklin.

Norman was pre-deceased by his parents and his brother Roger. Also surviving him are his sisters in law and brother in law, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Norman attended L’ecole de St. Joseph in Salem where he formed lifelong friendships. He was a proud graduate of Northeastern University, class of 1960, participating in their ROTC program. He served in the US Army from 1960-1962.

He started his career in public accounting, earning his CPA which led to a successful career as Chief Financial Officer of a shoe manufacturing company. In his retirement, Norman continued to offer his financial expertise to countless family and friends, leading to many successful business ventures. His love of numbers proved to be a perfect retirement hobby.

In recent years, Norm lived his dream of retiring on the water in Marblehead. He loved many things about Marblehead and got involved with the local community by lunching with the Romeo’s (Retired Old Men Eating Out), playing bocce at the COA, serving as a board member for the Marblehead Arts Association and acting as treasurer for the Festival of the Arts. He and Abby could often be found on a cocktail cruise around the harbor on summer evenings. His 12 grandchildren all had special relationships with their Grandpa and loved holidays and time spent on the boat or working on puzzles with him. He was happiest with them around.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. Salem, MA on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021 from 1-4 p.m. and are also invited to meet at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave. Marblehead, MA on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 for Norman’s funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
