Chester David Lipsett, 87
January 6, 1934 - July 24, 2021
Salem - Chester David Lipsett, 87, of Salem, passed away July 24, 2021 at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Salem, Chet was the son of the late Charles and Ethel (Hiltz) Lipsett. Chet was educated at Horace Mann Training School and Salem High School before joining the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Chet served from April 1957 to April 1959 and was later recalled to serve again during the Cuban Missile Crisis from Sept 1961 to April 1963. Chet was discharged honorably and was classified as a disabled veteran having been injured in Germany during his time in the service.
Chester worked as a self employed carpenter before and after his time in the military. He also worked with his brothers in the family business, the Lipsett Construction Company. And also worked for a time with another family business, Ravenwood Spring Water Inc in Gloucester, MA. After this business was sold, Chet began a long career since the 70s working for Thomas Mackey and Sons in Salem, MA until his retirement in 2009.
Following his retirement, Chet divided his time between Salem and his family’s summer home at Lake Shore Park in Gilford, NH. He enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesaukee in the summers and ice fishing with his AVT in the winters. Chet was an avid woodworker and builder. He was a jack of all trades, from welding to woodworking and beyond. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
Surviving Chet are his nephews, Charles Rocheleau of Saugus, Robert Lipsett of CA, and his nieces, Gail Lipsett of Lynn and Pamela Lipsett of MD.
