Barbara “Bubzie” Mercanti, 83

Barbara (Christophersen) Mercanti, 83, of Salem, formerly of Shrewsbury MA, passed away Friday morning at NSMC Salem Hospital. She was the wife of the late Giacomino “Jim” Mercanti.
Born in New London, CT, Barbara was the daughter of the late Gustav and Ann (Sherbert) Christophersen. Barbara worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Zander CPA firm in New London, CT. Barbara enjoyed cooking, periodic visits to Foxwoods, traveling to Brazil and spending quality time with her family.
She is survived by her children, James I. Mercanti of Shrewsbury, MA, Kim Mercanti of Boylston, MA, Pamela Aflalo and her husband Andre of Westport, CT, and Samuel Mercanti and his wife Annick of Salem, MA; her grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Bigelow, Emily Mercanti, Alexander, Natalie, and Sophie Aflalo; a sister Patricia and husband Thomas Gulluscio; brothers-in-law Gustavo "Gus" and wife Anna Mercanti, and Guglielmo "Bill" Mercanti as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. Salem, MA on Thursday Nov. 7 from 4-7pm during which time a service will be held in the funeral home at 4:15 pm. Family and friend are also invited to meet at St. Mary Cemetery entrance, North St. Salem, Friday Nov. 8 at 10am for a graveside service.
