Salem - Roger A. Deschenes, 96 of Peabody, formerly of Salem, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in Beverly Hospital. He was the loving husband of 72 years of Alice (Banville) M. Deschenes. He was a great Dad and always full of fun and loved to tease everyone.

Born in Salem, MA, Roger lived most of his life in Salem. He was the son of the late Joseph and Emilia (Gagnon) Deschenes. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, Roger served his country honorably during the Rhineland Campaign as an x-ray technician from 1941 to 1945 earning a European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with one bronze service star. Returning home, Roger worked for many years as a leather worker in several leather factories. His past time was golfing playing cards and pool and was happy as the President of the Ste. Anne's Club in Salem.

Along with his wife, Alice M. (Banville) Deschenes of Peabody, Roger is also survived by his son, Donald A. Deschenes and his wife Cheryl of Haverhill, MA, a daughter, Donna A. Deschenes of Rochester, NH, a granddaughter Lindsay Brianne Deschenes of Northampton, and a sister Jackie and her husband Jean Cayer and family of Ipswich. Roger was predeceased by his son, Roger "Butch" Deschenes who passed away weeks ago on Oct. 28, 2019.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St Salem, MA on Tuesday from 4 to 7 with a memorial service to take place at 6:45. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
