Paul J. Verrette, 57 of Salters Point, Beverly, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019 after a courageous but short battle with cancer at Mass General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born in Salem to the late Philias J. and Ruth F. (Swasey) Verrette. Paul was a resident of Salem most of his life.

Paul joined the United States Air Force right after high school. After serving in the military, Paul worked for years as a machinist in Salem and Peabody and worked as a correctional officer in the former Salem jail and in Middleton. Paul became a truck driver where he became known as "Heat Seeker" across New England. Paul began his career working and being trained by New England Freight Company for 2 years, then went to work for the City of Peabody for 9 years with the Council on Aging. Later, he joined the team of DECO Trucking out of Boston where he worked for the last 12 years.

He joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary on June 16, 2010 where he loved meeting new people while inspecting their vessels and educating on boating safety.

Surviving Paul is his long time partner, Ann Gregory of Salters Point, Beverly; a sister, Phyllis Bloom and her husband Paul of East Greenwich, R.I.; a brother, Salem Police Sergeant, Philias J. Verrette, Jr. of Salem; a sister, Carol Thibault Sullaway and her husband Sheldon of Danvers, four nieces, Wendy Arroyo, Emily Verrette, Tina Niarhos and AnnMarie Pryde. two nephews, Douglas Bloom and Nathaniel Verrette, great nieces and great nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Berube & Sons funeral home, 191 Lafayette St Salem, MA on Monday 4-8pm. His funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 am followed by his funeral Mass at St. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave. Salem, at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery Salem.
