William Hill Dixey, 79
August 10, 1938 - June 15, 2018
Salem - William Hill Dixey, 79, of Salem, passed away Friday afternoon at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers. He was the loving husband of Helen A. (Tardiff) Dixey.
Born in Boston, MA, William was the son of the late George W. and Ada E. (Millington) Dixey. Bill served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He was proud of his service on the USS Intrepid CV-11 Aircraft Carrier. Returning home from the Navy, Bill lived in Marblehead until he married and moved to Salem where he lived for most of his life. Bill worked thirty years for Thomas Mackey and Sons as a heavy equipment operator and fifteen years for the Town of Marblehead. He was a devoted fan of all New England sports teams; enjoyed swimming, playing hockey and racquetball. He was also an avid reader. Bill’s greatest joy was his grandson, Jackson.
Along with his wife Helen, Bill is survived by a son, William Dixey, his wife Cynthia and their son Jackson, all of Amesbury, MA; a daughter, Lori-Ann Dixey of North Berwick, ME; a niece Jayne Carey of Oregon; and a nephew Wayne Sanborn of Nevada. Bill is predeceased by his sister, Mabel Sanborn of Oregon.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours Wednesday from 4-7pm in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. Salem, MA and to Bill's memorial service in the funeral home Thursday at 10am.
