Henry P. Briggs, 90

Webster, TX - Henry P. Briggs, 90, of Webster, Texas, formerly of Salem, MA, Northbrook, IL and Palm Harbor, FL passed away Friday, October 19, 2018. He was the husband of Mercedes Horton-Briggs.
Born in Salem, MA, Henry was the son of the late Elmer and Marion (Roche) Briggs. Henry served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon returning home, Henry graduated with degrees from Columbia University where he played tackle on the football team and later M.I.T. He worked for many years with Recognition Equipment as an electrical engineer. Henry loved anything to do with the ocean, especially floating out to sea, watching football, playing golf, “fixing” his kids ice cream cones and spending time with his family and friends. He was also a long time member of the Knights of Columbus in Salem.
Surviving him are his sons, Paul and his wife Patti Briggs of Wilmington, NC and Steve Briggs of Palatine, IL; his daughters, Laurie and her husband Don Clary of Houston, TX, and Susan and her husband Lance Drs of Schaumburg, IL; his grandchildren, Kimberly and her husband Justin Briggs, Samantha and her husband Chris Smith, John and his wife Dana Briggs, Colleen Briggs, Natalie Briggs, Danny Briggs, David Drs, Jackie Drs and Robby Clary; his great-grandchildren, Cambria, Calliope, Avery, Emilia and Violet; his brother, George Briggs; stepdaughter Nan (Paulson) Perkins; stepson Norm Paulson and several nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his first wife, Isabelle (Dion) Briggs, his brother Leroy Briggs, sister Francis Gilday and stepdaughter Caryl Paulson.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. Salem, Thursday from 4-7 pm. His funeral will be Friday at 9 am followed by a funeral Mass at Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave Salem at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
