Elizabeth “Betty” (Marmen) Votta, 98 of Salem, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Twin Oaks in Danvers. Betty was the wife of the late Edmond Votta.
Born and raised in “Castle Hill”, Salem and proud of her French-Canadian heritage. Betty was the daughter of the late Andre and Evangeline (LaFrance) Marmen. She is survived by her son Fred Votta and her grandchildren, Brian Votta, Steven Votta and Nicole Votta, and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband Edmond, Betty was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Robert, Roland, Rene, Harvey, Annette, and Jeanne.
Betty worked at the GE in Lynn during WWII. Later in life she worked at Solid State in Salem, and then at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Boston and retiring from the Registry’s Lynn office.
During her retirement, she enjoyed travelling and also volunteering at the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly for over 20 years. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren whom she adored. She was a life long communicant of Ste. Anne’s Church and was involved in its many activities throughout the years.
The family extends their gratitude to Twin Oaks and Care Dimensions for their care of Betty. Memorial donations in Betty’s name can be made to Ste. Anne’s Church.
Visiting hours will be held in the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St Salem Wednesday from 5-8pm. A memorial Mass will be held in Ste. Anne Church Jefferson Ave. Salem, Thursday at 10am.
