George H. "Bubba" Blackwell, III, 84

Salem- George Henry "Bubba" Blackwell, III, 84, of Salem, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Salem Hospital in the company of his loving family. He was the husband of Katherine (Garland) Blackwell of Salem.
Born in Providence, RI, George was the son of the late George H. and Dorothy (Renick) Blackwell, Jr. George received his B.S. as well as his Masters in Education from Springfield College and worked for many years as a Professor at Salem State University. Bubba was also a Hall of Fame, winning head coach for 3 sports: Basketball, Baseball and Softball with 2 undefeated seasons at Salem State. He enjoyed reading crime thriller books, watching sports, listening to his transistor radios, making his “All World” special dishes and sunbathing by their pool. He was most happy centered around family and friends enjoying lively conversations.
Along with his wife, Katherine (Garland) Blackwell of Salem, MA, George was the father of Bonnie Blackwell Hunziker and her husband Stuart of Topsfield, MA and Wendy Blackwell Blanco and her husband Bob of Bartlet, IL; his step-children, Eric Bray and his wife Veronica of Newbury, MA, and Tracey Russo and her husband Ralph of Beverly, MA; his grandchildren, Haley Hunziker McCarthy and her husband Warren and their son, Tucker, of Topsfield, MA, Kurt Hunziker of Gloucester, MA, and Brooke Hunziker of Atlanta, GA; and Cole, Gavin, and Kaitlyn Russo of Beverly; a sister, Ann Wells and her husband Joseph of Essex Junction, VT; many nieces and nephews of NY, VT and MN; and George's very good friend Charles "Chucky" Angeramo, Jr., of Danvers, MA.
